Notice of Temporary Closure

Due to necessary restoration and construction works, we have made the difficult decision to close the Museum to the public* for the winter period.

With the ongoing restoration works across the 80 year old site, as well as the construction of our new Events and Exhibition Hall, Refurbishment of Hut 5, reconstructing of the front of site and more roof replacements, there will be several areas with restricted access. For the health and safety of our staff and visitors, we will be temporarily closing over the winter months from Monday 1st November 2021 to 31st March 2022 to ensure these works can be completed quickly and smoothly in time for next year’s busy season.

Over the past 18 months or so, we have had a very difficult time as a family business making sure we can open to the same standards as normal, albeit restrictions at certain times. Our directors, Howard Johnson and Paula Peace have dedicated time, energy and large investments in the museum and the site in general. Such examples can be seen through the new toilet facilities, roof refurbishments and essential maintenance to our 80-year-old original POW buildings. To maintain such important heritage and history, we have seen it appropriate to close over what is typically a quieter time for the museum to make even more fantastic improvements to the site you know and love.

Our staff and volunteers have been and continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our museum going, and we are ever grateful for their commitment and efforts every day. The museum will continue to expand for the future viability, the ongoing development of the business and its staff, and this is the reason we have chosen to close for a short temporary period.

If you have made plans to visit us during this period, we apologise for any disappointment caused but be reassured we will be back bigger and better in the new year!

We will still be running our Half Term Halloween fun with a treasure trail and games across site for the last week of October.

Please note: if you have a season pass, the expiry date for these will be extended for the same period we have been closed (5 months).
If you have a radio voucher that expires within the closure period, we will honour this for 3 months after our opening date.
