Eden Camp Summer Staycation is here!

Eden Camp Modern History Museum is excited to announce the summer season has begun and can confirm the Living History Weekend over August Bank Holiday is back with a bang!

The Museum traditionally showcases Living History weekends every May and August bank holiday of each year however over the past few months, it has been very difficult, if not impossible, to host these. This is why this year will be bigger and better than ever!

Not only will there be some amazing re-enactment groups all over site, but they will be bringing vehicles, equipment, displays and even games for you to get involved in, including an Airsoft Range!

The museum’s staff and regular volunteers will be around site throughout the Summer period showing what life was like during the war from several different perspectives, such as tank drivers, POWs, and Land Army Girls.

The museum will also be hosting the premiere of Letters From Betty presented to you by Be Amazing Arts throughout this weekend.

After hundreds of wartime love letters between Naval sailor Bert, and his sweetheart Betty were loaned to Eden Camp’s Archive, the team at Be Amazing Arts, including writer Roxanna Klimaszewska, were so touched by the content of the letters that they needed to bring this story to life.

James Aconley, Producer & Co-Founder Be Amazing Arts: “This is a really exciting opportunity for Be Amazing Arts. We are over the moon to be working with Eden Camp on this project. These incredible letters really give you an insight into how it felt to be a young couple living through the Second World War. I think sometimes it can be difficult to relate to historical events and imagine how it must have felt to be there at that time but having these amazing first-hand accounts really does bring it home.”

As the country moves back to some kind of normality, Eden Camp is excited to bring back the immersive activities it is reputed for, with the new play adding to this experience.

Whilst the events are going ahead, the message remains to stay alert, safe, and considerate. For museum guidelines when visiting from 19th July, head to www.www.edencamp.co.uk/visit/covid-19-updates.
