TOURISM
Tourism we are told is the up and coming industry, we are creating jobs, and certainly from the tax, VAT and rates we pay, not to mention the money we spend within the local area, we are creating revenue.
Why is it then with all the good we are doing for the area that the upgrading of the A64 has been postponed.
It is not just tourism that suffers it is every industry from York to the East Cost. The A64 is the areas lifeline!
The police advised on bank holiday weekend not to use the A64 as it was 'nose to tail' from York to Scarborough. The journey was taking about three hours.
To add to the areas congestion, some one somewhere had allowed the town centre of Malton to be upheaved with roadworks during the bank holiday weekend. So what?, you may say. Our visitors reported a normal 40 minute journey from Hull had taken them just under four hours. No wonder they and other were frustrated!
We do our best to promote the area to create jobs, but it would seem that we are on our own. Is anyone out there who can bring sense to this situation.
