Dear Editor
A Millennium project without Millennium funding!
To commemorate the 60th anniversary, of the declaration of the Second World War, we shall be opening the second of our "Millennium Projects" on 3rd September 1999,
Hut 13 covers the events from 1945 through to the present day. It gives coverage to all those people who gave up three years of their lives in the 40's, 50's and early 60's to carry out National Service, along with those who served in the Forces as their career.
You will be able to witness the layout of the service kit that recruits learnt never to forget. We have also built within the Hut a model of a Bailey bridge, a unique piece of engineering equipment that has been used from WWII to present day.
Two time lines covering both the Social and Military events, will remind the visitor of all those happenings in the last fifty years that are long gone and possibly forgotten!
The main scene takes us to Korea were in a dugout our men watch over the valleys below. A cold and forbidding place, over 600 men lost their lives. This area will be officially opened and dedicated on 3rd October 1999.
The Hut will be yet another worthy addition to our multi-award-winning museum. We are now more than double the size of the original museum that opened in 1987. Of course it goes without saying that we have done all this off our own backs with no assistance, financial our otherwise. Quite unique, in this day and age it would seem!
Please do not hesitate to contact us for further details.
Regards
Steve Jaques
