PEARL HARBOR
7th December 1941 - 7.56am.
50 years ago this weekend, Japan declared war on America attacking Pearl Harbor with total surprise. 18 ships were lost including all 8 battleships which were sunk or heavily damaged. In total 164 American aircraft were destroyed and 124 crippled, 2403 Americans were killed and 1178 wounded and all achieved with only a loss of 28 Japanesse aircraft.
The above events denoted a turning point of the Second World War, America and the Allies joined powers to create a force that was to eventually defeat the Axis powers.
To commemorate this important era we have created a new display dedicated to Pearl Harbour and "Americas Awakening" within Hut 25, which covers the Military and Political events of 1941.
