Mess Hut Three – Admiral Birindelli

Mess Hut Three – Admiral Birindelli

The Italian Navy pioneered the idea of human torpedoes in 1918 and continued to development them until their use by Decima Flottiglia MAS in WW2. They were used to attack British Naval targets in the Mediterranean, specifically in Alexandria, Gibraltar and Malta.

The display includes an Italian Human Torpedo or ‘Maiale’.

In addition to being a display hut, this hut is allocated to schools for packed lunches during term time or can be used as an indoor picnic eating area or private meeting room.
